Nokia e61i the successor of the e61 … who can tell? According to the latest post on Symbian Watch we can indeed expect a slimmer version of the e61 this time featured with a camera.

Personally I cannot wait for the e61’s successor, must be a cracker. What I personally like to see is reflected in the below “wish list” :

  1. Same size LCD in terms of inches, but this time a VGA (640×480) LCD instead of QVGA : but do not loose the 16M colors
  2. Slimmer is good (but not at the cost of the battery life)
  3. Smart roaming should be standard (eg automatic switching of networks in the background to maintain a connection to the internet)
  4. Much faster CPU to accomodate more CPU heavy applications like the office ones
  5. An additional jogdial on the right side of the phone (not to replace but in addition)
  6. Loose the record button - not positioned well - too many times the phone start recording without even realizing
  7. Email button : hate the fact you cannot change the email application the button opens (I guess nobody uses the standard email application from Nokia)
  8. Please loose the “double browser” - I mean the s40 version
  9. A contextual while-you-type menu of contact names in the “To” field for new messages (or making a call)
  10. Although personally I use mostly BT for laptop vv mobile communication, it seems that the pop port is really the worst part of the current e61

If you have anything to add to this “wish list” please do so in the comments - like to see it more “complete”.

    My wish list:

    - HSPDA, WiMAX
    - Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR with A2DP and AVRC profile
    - consumer infra (more power for the IrDA port for remoting devices)
    - internal GPS with functions like trace logging, proximity alert etc.
    - UPnP support (like N80)

    - min. 300 MHz CPU + 3D video engine (like N93)
    - min. 64 MB RAM (128 MB would be better)

    - miniUSB with charging function + 3,5 mm jack instead of pop-port

    - outdoor viewable VGA display (or more outdoor viewable qVGA)
    - Qwertz keyboard instead of Qwery in Central-Europe

    - predictive text input
    - text-to-speech (sms reader)

    - integrated web and wap browser with off-line rss reader
    - user configurable email button
    - today screen plugins (for example for weather or rss)

I need some application for s60 3rd too:

    - Autostart, Extended profiles, miniGPS, TotalIR remote from Psiloc
(I think the Polish guys could port more than 4 apps in a half year(!) if they really want)

Mini USB with charging functions is definitly needed - with the charging function.

Nokia normally uses a transflective display which is like “the best of both worlds”. Honestly if you want the best display for both indoor and outdoor viewing we should see again phones with a front-light. The best (last) example with a front-light was the P800 (SonyEricsson).

    1. Spellchecker for the e-mail and txt app!!
    2. Camera
    3. Stereo plug

  4. 4 Stefan

    1. Camera (any camera)
    2. Blackberry that actually works
    3. More Mac compatibility

But it is still a great phone. I cant get over how well the web browser works, it kicks ass.

The ultimate phone would have all the fetures mentioned in everyone’s posts yet be based on the web tablet and have no number or qwerty keys at all. Just a stylus and some letter rocognition or virtual keyboard ness.

I’m a journalism student, the police where beating some guy up while the police dog bit the shit out of him, yet no camera on my new phone to capture it with. And BTW I dont care if the file is too big to send via the network. Give me a hard drive and an 8mpx camera and I’ll transfer the stuff too my laptop.

Don’t hold us back Nokia, we rely on you to give us the useability and features the other manufacturers are too incompotent to provide.

guys, this business series phone so we should not expect nokia to make a phone with 3d accleration.remember nokia never makes ultimate phone.only thing i wish is s60 3rd edition future pack 1.with new web browser.

Guys, I think you’re being a bit too optimistic, the spy shots of what is rumoured to be the E61i - http://feetup.org/wiki/NokiaE61#Rumours7 - don’t look that promising for the major changes you’re suggesting.

    I almost forget the html-email support…

  8. 8 Beemer507

Yes - like in profimail - good

Sanyi: Do you actually use the standard email function or do you use 3rd party apps?

  9. 9 Sanyci

I used ProfiMail (The best for symbian!!!), but now I’m using Mail for Exchange and missing the html feature a lot…

The following User Agent Profile for E61i is not easy to read but would arguably provide unambiguous answers to many of our doubts.
    http://nds.nokia.com/uaprof/NE61i-1r100.xml

    Look for the following line
    Yes
and it should dictate that E61i indeed comes with a camera.

320×240 tells us that the screen resolution.

    Cheers.

Sorry. The editing area ate up some of my words in the previous post.

For camera, just search for “camera” in the XML file.
For screen resolution, just search for “screensize”.
