PC suite has been upgraded already for some time. Noticeable changes are esp the integrated Nokia’s phone software updater, increased stability of the whole application, and (at least that is my experience) a better connectivity in terms of Blue Tooth(”BT”). Where often in the past I had to go into PC suite and start connecting again to phone just to enable the BT connection and now almost immediately connects when PC suite is started. To me this in itself is quite an improvement.

A FREE future

26Mar07

IntoMobile reported a few interesting articles last week which have everything to do with the FREE future we are heading for. This week FREE power and FREE calls.

FREE power

… Solar powered cell phones have crossed over from imagination to reality. High Tech Wealth Electronics showed off its S116 cellphone at CeBIT to great fanfare. The device has a built-in solar cell that is capable of charging the battery with 30 minutes worth of juice after just 1 hour in the sun. A full charge can be expected after a 12 hour tanning session … read more >

This indeed should be the future. No charger needed anymore when traveling. Great, now we only need more efficiency coming out of the solar silicon.

FREE calls - FREE VoIP

A European company, started by a former Nokia president, wants to give all mobile phones access to free Voice Over IP services on their planned network. Well, nothing is really free in life, and neither is this service. The VOIP service will be “free” as long as you are willing to have advertising thrown at you left and right. An acceptable price? Most likely … read more >

Actually quite a straight forward idea. As long as they keep sending these marketing messages under the same “sender number” we should be able to block them. Let us see.

Ever since I have purchased my first Nokia e61 the catalogs feature actually never worked. When opened I get standard the message -No Catalogs. Select Options/Refresh list to download-. And after refreshing as instructed, no change, no list, and basically the same message keeps sitting in front of me. So far I have not really cared as I never felt I was missing anything. However, with Nokia releasing more and more applications through this channel, I start to wonder actually why this feature does not work. First I thought it was maybe an operator related issue, however, whether I try to update through GPRS or WiFi it does not seem to matter.

Anyone any ideas about this one? Just let me know.

morangeupdated.jpgMorange has been upgraded to version 2.7.0. Mainly the email application in Morange got a thorough facelift this next to some cosmetics in terms of navigation. As such the email application matured especially in having a better overview of the email itself when you are composing a new one. Try it out. Please also refer to earlier posts.

Babi at babinokia.com came up with a great theme called WoodElf. The theme presents a mysterious elf hiding in the woods. The theme is great especially due to the choice of colors.

Only disadvantage: it occupies quite some memory.

You can download it here.

Host updated

bluehost.jpgWhat many others already knew I had to found out the hard way, that is, YAHOO web hosting is crap in many ways. The service offered is dreadfully slow and heavily outdated, making the maintenance of any weblog no fun at all. As an example: I have been waiting for months now for an upgrade of Wordpress to version 2.1.x. It is simply not done.

Moved over in the meantime to BLUEHOST and it works like a charm.

At clickergamer.com they have prepared a FREE Xmas gift being a game called SNOWED IN 5 - FLAKED OUT. As said it is free and downloadable for almost all mobile platforms including Symbian s60 3rd edition. Even better it has been specically optimized for the Nokia e61 and Nokia e62. Although it is clearly a marketing stunt of the guys at clickergamer.com I do not mind to much as actually it is a nice and addictive game. If you sign-up at clickergamer.com than you can get a registration code for free before the end of January 2007. You can download the *.sis file for the Nokia e61 and Nokia e62 here.

The purpose of the game is actually quite simple. The idea is that you manage to create as many “Xmas figures in a row of miminal three” as possible. The longer the row the higher the score will be you collect. Rows can be created both in horizontal and vertical direction. You create rows by “exchanging” Xmas figures from its square with adjacent squares. This can be done again in horizontal, vetical, as well as diagonal direction. TIP: to move in the diagonal direction use the number keys on your e61 / e62 (eg 1 for NW and 9 for SE). The game is offering two game modes: easy and time mode.

Rafe at all about Symbian gives some more insight in the upcoming Nokia e61i and Nokia e65. Although, no real news other than that the expectation is that both devices will not run S60 3rd Edition FP1. A direction if Nokia chooses so is difficult to understand. For the Nokia e61i this basically means it is not a lot more than a basic hardware upgrade and an addition of a camera compared to the current Nokia e61 (and Nokia e62).
