Next to a fanatic Nokia e61 user I like to play a round of golf. Already since I have bought the SonyEricsson P800 I have been using IntelliGolf, a cool application to track your score during your golf game. Since then I have been using this app on my Palm and many other mobile devices burning quite some license fee buying it again and again.

Planning a first golf game since the purchase of my brand new Nokia e61 back in September, I went onto the site of intelligolf.com to download the e61 version. My surprise, no version available for the Symbian s60 3rd edition platform. In fact no version available at all specific for Symbian phones other than a crappy Java version which only partially works.

I accepted the fact, and decided to wait … and wait … and wait … Today I went back and checked again and other than that crappy Java version now being promoted as a Nokia e61 version, nothing has changed. Still no s60 3rd edition or even a Symbian version available. Not a good job at all of the guys at IntelliGolf.

Thus after several months of waiting I have given up and after years of being a loyal customer to IntelliGolf I am ready to try a new application for my golf score tracking on my Nokia e61.

Appreciate any suggestions on available applications you might have come across so far? Thanks.

I do not know about you, but so far I have not used the standard email which comes in the box with my Nokia e61. Personally I am using ProfiMail and Morange as push email application. As such I carry one idle button on my phone and that is the “email key”. I have been looking for applications to change the function of this key, eg open a different than the standard email program, or assign it fully to a different application. So far not found …

Appreciate if anyone can comment if such application exists already (eg similar to mlock). If not, then maybe anyone has an idea if this issue is covered in the next Xmas firmware upgrade. Please let me know?

If not, then I’m considering to make it myself.

Picked up at ringnokia.com that our Ed at e-series.org who has been an inspiration to most of us if it is about e-blogging, has not (yet) received any invite to Nokia world in Amsterdam effectively starting tomorrow. With Stefan I agree that this is far from acceptable and it makes you wonder if Nokia understands their “true customers”. Besides we all cannot wait to get Ed’s review on the soon to be expected e-series phone esp the Nokia e61i and Nokia e65.

In any case, fellow bloggers, let us step up to the plate and create one voice for Ed … who knows, maybe someone is listening.

After already some first indications that a successor for the Nokia e61 is in the make, recently some first pictures have come available of a possible successor Nokia e61i. Although the authenticity is debated (fake or not?) I did not want to keep from you. If it is, then they did a nice job modding it. ;-)

Some first observations are:

  • The 16m color QVGA stays - pity where I was hoping for a VGA LCD in its successor
  • Looking at the back of the e61i it seems despite most comments of the current e61 users, that a camera will be introduced. Considering the E-series are not considered “high-end” phones like the N-series, it will probably mean that there will be a “low-end” 2mp camera embedded
  • Pop-port is still the crappy Nokia’s own version and not the universal mini-USB like the current e62 with “charging possibility”
  • The housing looks nice. Still a metal casing though with a different color set-up. The front has become a black cover
  • The main soft keys and central joystick have been replaced for a new set of keys. Record key seems to be still wrongly positioned
  • Thickness still seems the same (where we all hoped for some slimmer version)

For the rest it is difficult to say. Likely this new phone will be introduced for the first time end of this month during Nokia world in Amsterdam. Ed from e-series.org will be joining in Amsterdam, thus let us look out what he comes back with on the Nokia e61i (and e65?). See if he can confirm the authenticity.

As mentioned in one of the earlier posts it is again time for some themes. Building upon the earlier released BMW theme : BMW Z4 maniac, I like to introduce two new themes one dedicated to the M3 and one dedicated to the Z8. The BMW Z8 roadster probably one of the greatest cars build in the last century :

The Z8 is one of the most fascinating cars that BMW has built in it’s 90 year history. It’s inspiration, and it’s forefather is the beautiful BMW 507 which was designed by Count Albrecht Graf Goertz and built between 1955-58. The Z8 revived the concept of an aluminum bodied sportster with classic proportions, but it was made using the most modern innovative construction techniques to create BMW’s first all aluminum car … Read more>

Picked this one up at techmundo.org. Apparently YouTube moved forward on making their service available for mobile phones. The site accessible through your mobile’s browser is TinyTube.net. Basically you can access the same videos available as on YouTube however on TinyTube these are provided in the *.3gp format allowing you to play them with real player on your Nokia e61 or any other Symbian s60 3rd edition device. The site will allow you to download in low, mid, and high resolution based upon the bandwidth you have. In any case WiFi is advised.

Here you can find a quick link to the “e61″ related videos available on TinyTube.

As we are all aware the progress of new game development for the Symbian s60 3rd edition platform is dreadfully slow. Would it not be a good thing if we can play all the classic games on the road on our Nokia e61? The LCD display is perfect for it. Now is our chance …

Recently a lot of already existing emulators for earlier versions have been updated to the s60 3rd edition platform. What is an emulator? Basically an emulator is like “replacing” the Commodore 64, Nintendo or Gameboy on your Nokia device and enables you to play exactly the same old classics (like my favorite game PacMan) as you were used to on these first “game consoles” in the late eighties. In principle the number of games you can play is “unlimited”.

Steps to take are as follows,

  1. Download an emulator and install it on your Nokia e61 (most provide trials and if you like you can register it)
  2. Find and download games on the internet specific to the emulator used (ie these are not interchangeable)
  3. Copy over (and “install”) game files into the respective directory on the phone or memory card (eg in this example in “phone/others/vSun/”
  4. Enjoy playing your games

Before last week I did spend quite some time updating the “look and feel” of mye61.com. Would appreciate any comments, if you have any. In addition I would appreciate that if you come across any anomalies on this site that you can email these for my attention.

In any case I will continue posting again starting with some new / updated themes. If you have any suggested topic then just let me know.
